    English Episode Description

Our first season offers a glimpse into the ways in which these people are facing the challenges of disaster capitalism as peoples across the Caribbean, Stand Together: 'United Against Disaster Capitalism'.

In this episode, we dive into the inspiring stories of two remarkable women, Marcela Ampudia Chavine and Ana Elisalise Perez, who have spearheaded community-driven organizations aimed at addressing food sovereignty and agricultural revitalization in their respective regions

Marcela, hailing from the island of Providencia in Colombia, shares the genesis of the Providencia Food Producers Association, affectionately known as Agroprovidencia. She recounts how the organization stemmed from the challenges faced by her grandfather, a lifelong farmer, in accessing government support for agricultural development. With determination and collective effort, Marcela rallied her family and community to form an association that not only supports her grandfather's endeavors but also endeavors to uplift all agricultural producers on the island.

Across the waters in Puerto Rico, Analise Perez sheds light on the Colmena Cimarrona, born out of the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in 2017. The devastating hurricane underscored the vulnerabilities of the island, accentuating the need for community resilience and food sovereignty. Analise narrates how the organization emerged from grassroots efforts to establish social kitchens, promote agroecology, and advocate for land rights amidst challenges posed by historical injustices and government neglect.

Both Marcela and Analise highlight the pivotal role of community organizing, resource mobilization, and grassroots activism in driving sustainable change. From soup kitchens to seed libraries, from land reclamation to market initiatives, these people exemplify resilience, innovation, and a profound commitment to their communities' well-being.

    English Interview with Tèt Kole

The Stronger Caribbean Together Podcast is a monthly conversation between the Stronger Caribbean Together project team and Caribbean partners working on the frontlines.

For the first season, co-hosts Kristinia Doughorty and Dr. André Habet talk to people from the regional Stronger Caribbean Together network about the ways their communities are confronting the challenges of disaster capitalism as people across the Caribbean, Stand Stronger Together: ‘United Against Disaster Capitalism.’

For the second episode, Kristinia and André are joined by Pierre Mary Louise, one of the leaders of Tèt Kole, an organization fighting for peasant rights in Haiti. Tet Kole is a Haitian food producers’ organization birthed through peasant and social struggles for survival and freedom from political disasters, in the form of repressive regimes, extractive political economy and internationally abetted state violence against the nation. During the conversation, Pierre discusses the vision and organizational strategy of Tet Kole as a community-based organization founded in the context of state crises and violence, and seeking food sovereignty as a basic right against vulnerability to disasters and disaster capitalism.
