 Two of the most fearless and most coveted linebackers of the USFL just so happen to sport the same uniforms on Saturdays and Sundays: New Orleans Breakers' linebackers Vontae Diggs (@diggsy13 via Twitter) and Jerod Fernandez (@J4nando via Twitter). Some might say that this duo is/are the nucleus of one of the most prolific and talented defenses of the [then] United States Football League (USFL) over the span of the previous two seasons.

However, the Breakers have come up just short of a championship in both seasons, falling to the 2x USFL Champions, and hub rival, the Birmingham Stallions. They're hoping to change the narrative in 2024, as they intend to return to the league, and most importantly, return to anchor down the Breakers' defense.

To that note, we would be remissed to mention the talent that lies within the Breakers' defense, or atleast, has made an impact for the team in their previous two seasons:

- CB Adonis Alexander
- CB Mike Stevens
- LB Shaheed Salmon

Quite the defensive presence... but we digress.

In this week's episode of the Strive Sports Podcast, Keegan Hartman (@KeeganHartman1 via Twitter) [not only] sits down with one of the best linebacking duos in all of Spring football, but takes a deeper dive into Chicago native, and a biproduct of Downers' Grove North High School, Vontae Diggs.

Vontae Diggs' story epitomizes the show's namesake, in that Vontae has continuously fought through adversity, played with a chip on his shoulder, and has had to take the road less traveled. For much of Diggs' childhood, Vontae could recall growing up homeless in metro Chicago. Raised by a single mother, Vontae opens up about his childhood, illustrating the many hardships he had to endure, which ultimately molded him into the person/player he is today.

Having held stints in the NFL, AFL, CFL, and most recently the USFL, Vontae knows just how hard chasing dreams can be, and gives us a tremendous perspective on the constant fight for his dreams and aspirations.
