 Després de dos primers discos de rock alternatiu i guitarrer, Primal Scream van ser capaços de captar el canvi dels temps que s'apropava amb la dècada dels 90. Per crear la seva tercera obra, van acostar-se (sense perdre gaire de vista el passat) a la música de clubs d'allò que es va anomenar "so Madchester".
