About this listen

UCF fans, the quarterback conversation just got real. Scott Frost spoke after the Jacksonville State game and made it clear — the Knights have to improve fast. Cam Fancher’s injury had fans holding their breath, but thankfully it wasn’t a concussion. Instead, it’s a leg issue that will be evaluated this week. That opened the door for Taven Jackson, and he made the most of his chance, throwing for 282 yards and two big touchdowns that changed the entire game. Scott Frost praised Jackson for stepping in and handling the moment, and now the door is wide open for a quarterback discussion heading into the matchup against North Carolina A&T. Two QB usage is still on the table, but should it be? I share my thoughts on why that approach doesn’t help UCF build rhythm on offense. The offense also showed flashes of explosiveness, but not nearly enough. Frost pointed out that you can’t live on 17-play drives that stall out. Explosive plays are a must if UCF wants to compete with Big 12 opponents down the road. Miles Montgomery made plays in both the run game and passing game, while DJ Black and other receivers gave Taven Jackson options. Still, the offensive line’s run blocking left plenty to be desired. Defensively, UCF looked more aggressive, getting after the quarterback and keeping Jacksonville State’s ground game in check. The fundamentals still need work though, with costly penalties and turnovers putting the Knights in tough spots. UCF has to clean it up quickly. Kansas State and Big 12 play aren’t far away.
