    Mary Ellen Campbell was the first openly gay Deputy Lord Mayor in Belfast in 2016. During her time there she submitted a motion for an LGBTQIA+ stained glass window. Fast forward to 2025 and the window was launched in June 2025 by counsellor Micky Murray who was approaching the end of his time as Belfast's first openly Gay Mayor.
