Dr. Sara Pugh has a degree in Biochemistry Genetics and PhD in Molecular Mechanisms. She studied protein folding, which plays a role in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, antioxidants and fluorescence. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher on heart muscle cells, cholesterol and statins. She has had her work on the above subjects published in various peer-reviewed journals.

Scott Zimmerman is an optics engineer with over 35 years of experience in the industry and over 80 US patents. In the last decade, Scott has turned his attention to how light interacts with the body. This has led him to becoming an expert on the physiology of melatonin and how NIR/IR light propagates through living tissue. Scott is an expert in optics and has focussed his attention on quantifying the health effects of natural sunlight. Scott has unparalleled knowledge about how light interacts with systems.

His innovations and inventions have been used successfully in a wide range of military and commercial products that include night vision displays, liquid crystal display backlighting designs, and lighting fixtures. More recently, he has been working closely with world-renowned researchers in the field of biology, looking closely at the relationship between natural light rich in near-infrared, melatonin and cortisol. His publications are alongside Professor Russel Reiter, the world’s expert in melatonin. Scott’s insights are profound and are changing the way we perceive our relationship with light and why we are yet to get a grip on diseases of modern life.

Scott has also started a company, NIRA, and seeks to integrate the best of LED technology and the best of incandescent technology to make lightbulbs that are safe and provide much-needed NIR wavelengths absent in modern fixtures.

Gerald Pollack is a pioneer when it comes to water research. Pollack received his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. He then joined the University of Washington faculty and is now professor of Bioengineering. He has received an honorary doctorate in 2002 from Ural State University in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and has been named an Honorary Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences and foreign member and Academician of the Srpska Academy. He received the Biomedical Engineering Society’s Distinguished Lecturer Award in 2002. In 2008, his colleagues chose him as the recipient of his university’s highest annual distinction; the UW Faculty Lecturer Award. Pollack is a Founding Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and a Fellow of both the American Heart Association and the Biomedical Engineering Society. He received an NIH Director’s Transformative R01 Award. He was the 2012 recipient of the Prigogine Medal for thermodynamics of dissipative systems, and in 2014 he received the Scientific Excellence Award from the World Academy of Neural Therapy, as well as the Dinsdale Prize from the Society for Scientific Exploration. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal WATER. The Executive Director of the Institute for Venture Science; and founder of the Annual Conference on the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology of Water.

He has authored several books, most notably 'Cells, Gels and the Engines of Life' as well as 'The Fourth Phase of Water'. Both of these books outline the details of his own and his predecessor's research on water and cell biology.

A scientist, researcher, author, inventor, and leader in the field of light science, Dr. Martin Moore-Ede, M.D., Ph.D., has been a leading expert on circadian clocks and their regulation by light for over 40 years. As a professor at Harvard Medical School (1975 – 1998), he led the team that located the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), the biological clock in the human brain that controls the timing of sleep and wake. As founder and CEO of the global consulting firm Circadian, he pioneered technologies to help people safely adapt to working around the clock. His best-selling books The Clocks That Time Us and The Twenty-Four Hour Society are based on this work. His most recent book is The Light Doctor: The Science and Solutions for Replacing Your Lights Now to Protect Your Health, exposes the epidemic of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer that has been caused by the poor design and misuse of electric lights. The book provides clear guidance on how to use healthy circadian lights to provide the right light at the right time of day.
