    Welcome to Pedagogy NEXT, a podcast about excellence in teaching in higher education. The podcast series showcases and celebrates teaching stories and insights. For our inaugural podcast, today we are talking to Dr. Ken Roemer, Emeritus Fellow in the Department of English, member of the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers, Piper Professor, and member of both the UTA Academy of Distinguished Teachers and UTA Academy of Distinguished Scholars. The overarching theme of the show is his legacy from teaching at UT Arlington for 48 years. Dr. Roemer shared with us, not only his experiences teaching but his views on how being active in the development of a secondary-level Native American-focused ethnic studies course has become also part of his teaching repertoire.   • Physics Education, AI Chatbots, and Cosmic Thoughts with Dr. Ramon López

    Welcome to Pedagogy NEXT, a podcast about excellence in teaching in higher education. The podcast series showcases and celebrates teaching stories and insights. For our second podcast episode, today we are talking to Dr. Ramon López. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) where he leads a research group that works in both space physics and science education. Dr. López is also a Co-Director for the UTeach Arlington teacher preparation program. His current research focuses solar wind-magnetosphere coupling, magnetic storms, and the application of research-based pedagogy to upper division and graduate physics courses López. Dr. López is a member of the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers, member of both the UTA Academy of Distinguished Teachers, and has the Distinguished Record of Research Award at UT Arlington. The overarching theme of this episode is his dedication and commitment to physics education. Dr. López is grounded in decades of physics education research (PER) globally and shared ideas with us on what works for teaching. Related to innovation, he shared ideas on a course-specific chatbot that helped students work through their prior misconceptions about physics topics in developing their expertise.   • Teaching Historical Geography with Dr. Andy Milson

For our third podcast episode, we are talking to Dr. Andy Milson. Dr. Milson has shared great, concrete ideas about teaching and his use of rich dialogue and discussions in his courses. He also discussed where he gets his teaching ideas. Dr. Milson is a professor of historical geography in the Department of History and Geography, where he teaches courses in human, historical, regional, and urban geography. In 2020, he was inducted into the UT Arlington Academy of Distinguished Teachers. Dr. Milson has published extensively in the field of geography education and has twice received the Best Article Award from the Journal of Geography. His most recent research has focused on travel and exploration in 19th-century North America. Dr. Milson is currently serving as Chair of the UTA Faculty Senate from 2023 to 2025.   • Leveraging Digital Technology for Teaching: Talking to Dr. Peggy Semingson

For our fourth podcast episode, LaDonna Aiken of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers is talking to Dr. Peggy Semingson (podcast host) about digital teaching and learning. Dr. Semingson has been doing distance learning and digitally-focused teaching at UT Arlington since 2008 and shares ideas, tips, and experiences for faculty wanting to know more about these topics. Prior to coming to UT Arlington in 2008, she was a classroom teacher and bilingual reading specialist in the public schools for eight years. In 2019, Dr. Semingson was inducted into the UT Arlington Academy of Distinguished Teachers. She is currently serving as chair of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers until her active term ends in 2025. Dr. Semingson’s Ph.D. is in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Language and Literacy Studies from The University of Texas at Austin. She has an in-depth background in digitally focused lesson design. Her research interests include digital pedagogies, media-based learning, online learning, and online literacy teacher education.     For our fifth podcast episode, Dr. Peggy Semingson of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers is talking to Howard Prince from the Office of Information Technology at UTA about web publishing and media publishing and implications for teaching. Howard is currently Director of OIT Web Publishing & Development where is he responsible for managing and coordinating the design, development, integration, testing, and maintenance of web pages, media publishing, application customization, and software development services to support the University. He shares with us what he does, what his team does, and how faculty can leverage key web publishing resources for teaching. Howard is an innovation leader and according to his LinkedIn profile, “I’ve found that I excel in roles where I’m able to help people, to provide them information and understand how they communicate, and to support them in their roles or workplaces.”
