• One For The Memories (not just Boots & Hearts) with Annika Catharina
    Sep 23 2025

    Send us a text

Annika Catharina's family background influenced her love for performance. Growing up in a family that was partial to music, theatre, and the arts, she herself was also a dancer.

Theatre and live performance is what actually helped her to overcome shyness, something she still manages to this day.

Speaking of the big stage, Annika has had quite the year. She was a semi-finalist in SiriusXM's Top of the Country competition, and also a semi-finalist in this year's Emerging Artist Showcase at Boots and Hearts Music Festival.

Her single "Love and Hate" is at radio now, was just featured as Bell's iHeartFutureStar, and is currently Rogers One To Watch. The single is her first Top 50 at Canadian country radio.

With lots more music on the way, her latest single "Under Covers" is out now!

Follow Annika Catharina on Instagram and TikTok.

  • From Six Strings To The Big Stage with Cottage Springs with Mac Rumbolt
    Aug 26 2025

    Send us a text

This week On The Porch, we’re joined by Mac Rumbolt. Mac is the winner of the Cottage Springs Country Rising contest, where he took home the grand prize of $10,000, and an artist development package with Starseed Entertainment.

Mac comes from small-town Nova Scotia, where he learned to play guitar at just five years old. Unsure of how a career in music may unfold, he initially headed to Alberta for an apprenticeship as a Harley Davidson mechanic. One drive by shooting and a leg amputation later, Mac found himself back at home working in behavioural health.

Unable to play sports anymore, Mac turned back to his guitar and writing music, a place of comfort while he rehabbed his injuries. A Facebook ad and a dream later, Mac applied for the Country Rising contest and found himself the winner.

This summer, he opened for the Reklaws in Windsor, along with their back to back sold out shows at the legendary Kee To Bala.

We can’t wait to see what’s next from Mac, including a single release in the near future!

This week’s episode of On The Porch with Front Porch Music is a little extra special. We packed up our mics and headed straight to Oro-Medonte for Boots and Hearts Music Festival!

If you’ve been, you know the weather here never plays nice. This year was no different ... Friday brought storms, and the weekend turned into two of the hottest days of the summer so far. But hey, that’s all part of the festival magic, right? Mud, sweat, country music ... and more sweat.

Boots and Hearts 2025 brought some major talent to the stage, including Bailey Zimmerman, Cameron Whitcomb, Hardy, Sam Hunt, The Band Perry, and so many more.

One of our favourite parts of the weekend is always the Emerging Artist Showcase. A chance to hear the future stars of Canadian country before they take over the airwaves. This year’s winner? School House, an incredible band from Ottawa who blew the crowd away.

In this episode, you’ll hear from some of our favourite Canadian friends, including:

    • Tyler Joe Miller
    • Zach McPhee
    • Kelsi Mayne
    • Jessie T
    • Hailey Benedict
    • Owen Riegling
    • Last year’s EAS winner Sarah Vanderzon

We also caught up with this year’s showcase talent: Jade Hilton, Annika Catharina, Amanda Couture, Lake Porter, Sean Michael Ryan, and of course, School House.

From backstage stories to the chaos of festival weather, this episode is packed with the sounds and stories of Boots and Hearts 2025. Grab a cold drink, crank it up, and join us on the festival grounds — no sunscreen required.

  • “They’re all cattle farmers so I didn’t need to do that” with Jake Vaadeland
    Jul 29 2025

    Send us a text

Jake Vaadeland is from Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, and has always appreciated his rural upbringing. From playing music with his family, to working on the farm, bailing hay, Jake’s roots really are a reflection of the traditional style of music he brings to the stage.

He has had an impressive year already as a 2025 Juno Award Winner, while also making history as the youngest artist to achieve Road Gold Certification by selling 25,000 tickets in twelve months across Canada.

Along with his band, The Sturgeon River Boys (named after the river running through his rural hometown), Jake has been on a global tour, performing in the U.K., Spain, Denmark, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, and Canada.

We talked about a lot on our episode with Jake, from his traditional style music, to what his style and suits really represent to him; it’s more than just a stage fit. We talked about his love of country music from the 40s and 50s.

We also talked about the Top of the Country competition, where Jake is a finalist and will play at LASSO Music Festival in August, and compete in the finale during Country Music Week in Kelowna.

You can try and keep up with Jake (he’s all over the map on tour!) on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

  • Three Canadians Talking Texas with Mitch Zorn
    Jul 15 2025

    Send us a text

Mitch Zorn has been celebrating the release of his debut EP Mitch Zorn. We caught up with him during his Calgary Stampede adventures.

Mitch grew up in a town of 1000 people, rural Nakusp, British Columbia, where he joined his family band at just eight years old. It wasn’t long before he was headed South to work in the oil fields in Texas. Mitch would spend five years going between there and Nashville to write songs on his weeks off.

We talked a lot about how working in the oil fields really inspired and shaped his songwriting.

Mitch decided to move home after five years down South and really started to work on recording music. A chance encounter with representatives of 604 Records at his show led to him celebrating his first record deal in mid 2024.

Since then, Mitch has released singles leading up to his EP, started touring throughout Canada, and participated as a semi-finalist in SiriusXM’s Top Of The Country competition.

Keep up with Mitch Zorn on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.

    Jul 1 2025

    Send us a text

Sully Burrows grew up in Parry Sound, Ontario, surrounded by small-town charm and a family that pushed him to pursue music from an early age. Starting out on piano, he shifted to drums before finally picking up a guitar and learning to sing.

His first co-write with Owen Riegling opened a whole new world and kicked off his journey into songwriting. He’s big on practice and repetition, always working to sharpen his skills and write songs that feel real and relatable.

Sully pulls a lot of inspiration from his own life and his hometown roots, and you can hear it in the stories he tells through his music.

It has been a big year for Sully. And being one of the finalists for the Top of the Country competition, it's clear that he is going to have an even bigger end to the year.

  • “From City Kids To Steroes to Delta Sweet” with Pat Kordyback
    Jun 17 2025

    Send us a text

Pat Kordyback discovered his voice after losing interest in hockey and skateboarding. Learning to sing in his teens, Pat was inspired by the sounds of motown, which would foreshadow a little ‘doo wop’ in his future.

Getting together with Miles Holmwood, Robert Chalifoux, Daniel Johnson, and Aaron Verdonk, Pat would spend his early 20’s as the frontman for Canadian pop punk rock band Stereos. The band blew up after being featured on Much Music’s “disBAND”, and winning over Gene Simmons.

Stereos would teach Pat a lot about life in a band, being a rockstar (and unlearning the rockstar attitude), and hard work rehearsing five day a week paying off. Hits like “Summer Girl”, “Throw Ya Hands Up” and “Butterflies” would send the band up the charts.

After his punk rock days would come to a close, Pat decided to lean into his Alberta side, and begin writing and recording country music.

We talked with Pat about his career highs, lows, and more. We talked about the Stereos whirlwind, lessons learned from that exact whirlwind, and how his country music career aims to spark something new.

We also talked about the Oilers….and his lifelong dedication to his hometown NHL team.

His current single “Drive 85” is out now, which follows previous singles, “Outta Money, Outta Mind”, “Pour A Little My Way” and “Whiskey Like You”.
