  • Overcoming fear in a changing world
    Oct 3 2025

I think it's very obvious that many of us feel a strong fear now and that this fear is overstated. We show more fear than isrelevant in this situation. And one thing, of course, we should do is to take a deep breath and ask ourselves, is it really so frightening and so dangerous as we believe? Is it truly so that our world is changing in a way that is like in the 1930s, for instance, with fascism in Europe and so on. Is it the same thinghappening? And is it impossible? if it is happening to counteract it and to resist it. And I think we have a tendency to be more fearful than we have reason to be and to be less confident of ourselves than we have reason to be because it's so novel. It's so surprising to us that anyone could go out andsay there's no climate crisis.

    Shownotes

we're, trying to problem solve all of these crises, but we'll never problem solve without first shifting.

In a sense, it's a worldview shift to understand. the premise of my work is the economy is not a machine. It's a living system. And, there is a science of living systems. It's called living system science. And we've learned an awful lot about living systems in the past 50 years that we didn't know before that. But economics as a discipline and business and business management as a discipline, all predated.

the emergence of, we could simplify and just call it ecology, but it's a much more sophisticated understanding of how living systems from the microscopic right up to the planet itself and cosmologists believe the entire universe actually work.

  • The Cost of a Quantifying Society
    Aug 25 2025

Host Sandja Brügmann in session with Kasper Bjørkskov, systems thinker, activist and founder No Objectives

The concept of efficiency, how much one can accomplish per unit of time or per dollar requires a quantitative numerator as well as a denominator. It requires a metric, therefore it tells us nothing about the result, we cannot quantify or measure. When we gear our society around efficiency, we produce more and more of the measurable, while the immeasurable, the qualitative and the things we don't think we're to measure drain away. And bedazzled by quantitative abundance, wemight not be able to see what we lost, but we definitely can feel its absence. And I think that is such a good explanation for how we got here, because we live in a system where we want to quantify everything. It's a system built on science and science needs to be backed by data and data needs to be able to be replicated in order to become science.Kasper Benjamin Reimer Bjørkskov is an architect, author, scientist and activist focused on turning minority insights into majority actions, making sustainability and social change accessible to all.
