We go through everything from collection and pulverization to sheet processing and discuss the complex view of using synthetic polymers versus natural materials to create innovative material solutions.

• In this section, we discuss how coffee-based technical composite fibers are made, specifically how the SCafe material is created. We explain how it works, what these terms mean, and break down the processing methods to make them digestible and easy to understand.

This will be a two-part series as there are a total of four materials we’ll be covering, these being Mycellium, Apples, Coffee and the Lotus Flower. While all of these materials come from nature, the way in which they arrive at the place of fashion are varied, some get there with the help of modern techology and science, while others require percise craftmenship that has been passed on through generations.
