About this listen
Tonight, Michael and Steph introduce us to Marc Blitzstein, a celebrated composer known for The Cradle Will Rock, was tragically murdered on January 22, 1964, in Martinique.
While on a night out, he encountered three men who lured, assaulted, and robbed him. The attack turned fatal when Blitzstein resisted, resulting in severe injuries. As an openly gay man, his murder was likely influenced by societal prejudices.
Two of the perpetrators were later charged. Blitzstein's death shocked the artistic world, cutting short a career dedicated to pushing boundaries and advocating for social change. His legacy endures through his influential work.
