Why moms need “Safe + Secure: Life With the Good Shepherd”

Melanie and Christy are joined with friends Hilary, Kayla, and Alicia to talk about why the upcoming MomLife season is going to be so good for moms—especially in light of a world that can often feel crazy fast! The world seems to be swirling with noise, distractions, expectations, instability, and chaos. No matter what season of motherhood you’re in, you likely feel it—the weight of endless to-do lists, late-night worries, deeply rooted fears, and moments of wondering, Am I enough? This can leave our heart and soul unsettled and uncertain. And the enemy loves it. He thrives on whispering lies that stir up insecurity, impatience, and fear.

But here’s the truth: You were never meant to be enough or have it all figured out on your own. Now, more than ever, we need deeper communion with our Shepherd. And deep, encouraging community with one another!

Wholehearted—Loving God With All Your Strength

Whether you’re in your 30's or your 80's, Jesus is calling you to faithfully and wholeheartedly follow him—to love him and others with all of your effort and action. You’re going to make mistakes. You’re going to do it imperfectly. There will be distractions. And, you’re not going to have it all figured out right now. That's ok! The goal of the wholehearted believer is to identify and shrink any gaps that might exist between what you say you believe and how you live. The clearer your vision of Jesus becomes, the more you will be led to give him all of your heart’s affection, soul’s devotion, mind’s attention, and all the fullness of your strength.

Listen in as Melanie and Christy talk about their own struggles to keep leaning into God when things get challenging.

    Journaling/discussion prompts for today's episode:

    • Close your eyes for a moment and imagine… what would it look like to release the idea that following Jesus should be easy, fast, perfect, or predictable?
    • How were you encouraged today to embrace your imperfections as you aim to hold steady to Jesus?
    • Read Matthew 14:22-36 and jot down any notes of what stands out most to you from the story. What did you learn about Peter? The disciples? Jesus?
    • Like Peter, how might you need to ask Jesus for help today?

  • MomLife Live: Parenting With Hope in a Broken World
    Apr 28 2025

    Send us a text

MomLife Ministries hosted a live event in Clarksville, TN on April 7, 2025. This is the recording from that evening. Melanie and Christy were joined with 80 local moms to talk about how parenting in today’s world comes with so many unique challenges—especially as we find ourselves facing tough conversations with our kids about things like sex and relationships, technology and social media, and a culture that promotes messages contrary to the Truth of Scripture. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed—whether by fear, comparison, or the pressure of perfectionism. But we don’t have to parent from a place of defeat! Instead, we can engage our kids and the world around us with the hope of Christ.

Note: This is a re-post from April 2024. Melanie and Christy are joined with some special friends: Tabitha Dowdy, Alicia Mullinix, Megan Evans, and Sydny Simpson. All of these women have served in various ways as leaders of local MomLife groups. Listen in as they talk about the importance of building community among fellow moms and specifically why they felt the nudge to spend time investing in the lives of others.

We hope that as you listen you are encouraged to take a step to build connections with some moms friends in your area. Whether you have lots of experience leading a group of women or none at all, MomLife Ministries is here to put all the tools that you need in your hands.

    Journaling/discussion prompts:

    • What are some ways that you can encourage a heart of service in your kids? Think about ways you can lead by example or ways that you can serve your community together as a family.
    • Read 2 Corinthians 12:9. How is it easier to think of serving others when you know you have God’s power within you?
    • What comfort do you receive from Psalm 121?
    • Janey encouraged listeners to take a verse and write it out as a note/letter to your child and pray over them. Use the words of 1 Corinthians 12:9 or Psalm 121 as a guide to try this.

Wholehearted—Loving God With All Your Strength

Melanie and Christy are joined by special guest Lydia Lucas to talk about sharing the good news of the gospel through our very lives. God calls us to offer ourselves (however much or little we feel like we might have) with hospitality toward our neighbor so that we can experience life together. It is a simple but challenging call. But no matter what, God promises to be with us as we learn and grow in loving him and loving others.

Lydia was born and raised in Spanish Harlem. She is a wife, mom, grandma, writer, and co-founder of the Latinas Loving Jesus ministry. She works on the leadership team at City Relief, a faith-based organization serveing people experiencing homelessness in New York and New Jersey. Her favorite way to commune with God is spending time in her backyard garden. She lives in New Jersey with her husband and two boys. Check out latinaslovingjesus.com and @latinaslovingjesus.

    Journaling/discussion prompts:

    • Read Mark 12:29-31. Jesus says there is nothing greater than loving God and loving your neighbor. Who is your neighbor?
    • Talk about the weighty feeling of loneliness and isolation. How do you see the effects of loneliness and isolation in our world? How might you personally experience it?
    • Define hospitality. What is the difference between how the world views hospitality and how scripture commands us to live out hospitality?
    • Read 1 Thessalonians 2:6-8. Who are the people who have shared the goodness of God’s love through sharing their very lives with you?
    • How might God be calling you to love others well through hospitality? What does that look like in your specific place, with your unique gifts and interests?
    • Pray and ask God to increase your awareness of your “neighbors” and their needs and to grow your capacity to find moments to love them like he does.

    Journaling/discussion prompts:

    • In a world that constantly tells us our worth is tied to how we look, how much we weigh, or how we measure up to impossible standards, the gospel reminds us of a far greater reality. Read Genesis 1:27 and 31, Psalm 139:14, and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. What do these verses tell you about your body and how God views it?
    • How does the way we think, view, talk about, and care for our body matter not only for our own view of self, but also for our kids? For the way in which we serve others and worship God? For the ways in which we engage in relationships with others?
    • Based on what you heard today, what is one thing you can do to care for your body?
    • Spend some time in prayer, inviting God into what you are doing with your body (how you think about it, care for it, use it, etc.).
