Für an die 2,2 Milliarden Dosen und Plastikgetränkeflaschen, die in Österreich pro Jahr verbraucht werden, müssen seit Jahresbeginn 25 Cent Pfand bezahlt werden. Wie sich das neue System auswirken wird, lässt sich nicht sagen, noch stehen viele noch zu verkaufende Einweggebinde in den Supermärkten. Jedenfalls soll damit die vorgeschriebene EU-Sammelquote im PET-Bereich von 90 Prozent bis 2030 erreicht werden.
Die Müllberge wachsen europaweit. Um dem entgegenzuwirken, wird recycelt, was möglich ist - denn Müll ist auch wertvoll: Von Plastik, Papier und Metall bis hin zu Elektroschrott, Küchenabfällen und anderen Hinterlassenschaften.
