    Jul 7 2025

This week on LIVING IT LOUD: Melanie Johnson grew up at the drag strip, watching her dad, legendary crew chief Alan Johnson, tune his way to 13 NHRA Top Fuel Championships. Racing runs deep in her family—her late uncle Blaine Johnson was a standout in both Top Alcohol and Top Fuel—and now Melanie’s carving her own path in the sport. After a successful run in Super Comp, she’s stepping into the Top Alcohol Dragster ranks and just picked up her first win in Norwalk, Ohio. She’s got big shoes to fill, but she’s doing it her way—with grit, heart, and a love for the sport that started when she was just a kid hanging out in the race trailer.

In 2008, Doug put his racing career aside when he lost his two young sons, Jon and James, in a tragic car crash. After experiencing a tremendous amount of loss and grief, Doug decided to
create a free driving program that teaches advanced safe driving techniques to teen drivers, and founded B.R.A.K.E.S. B.R.A.K.E.S. has trained over 50,000 teens
since its inception. Studies have shown that B.R.A.K.E.S. trained teen drivers are over 64% LESS likely to be involved in a car crash. More than his 4 Championships or 30 National Event Wins saving other teen lives is what Herbert calls his “Biggest ever win”.
