About this listen

As per the discussion with maritime union for seafarer's in India Seafarers working on merchant ships face a number of challenges and hardships by virtue of their profession and their tenure on board extends to months. They basically work in a confined environment and face a number of challenges and numerous hardships. Working away from their families for months at a stretch, unpredictable weather and sea conditions, delays due to bad weather, change of routes by owner/charter, all have a direct impact on the mental and physical well being.

Denial of shore leave affects the seafarers mindset, health & wellbeing. This may affect their performance on board, morale and may lead to undesirable incidences on board. Acute boredom, mental and physical fatigue, are dangerous states of mind and body, which can lead to impairment of concentration, frustration, which can lead to accidents to self, the ship, cargo and the environment.
