  • Flipping the Focus to Show Up as Your Authentic Self with Fi Mims
    Feb 26 2023

When it comes to the increasing noise in the online space, getting yourself seen and heard becomes harder and harder. That’s why showing up as our authentic selves in a saturated marketplace is more important than ever.

In today’s episode, I chat with Fi Mims, one of Australia’s leading personal brand photographers. Fi is passionate about working with female thought leaders, entrepreneurs and business owners, helping to elevate their brands and amplify their message in an authentic way.

As a branding specialist, Fi shares her thoughts on why it’s vital to get the foundational brand elements right in order to convey a strong message about who you are and what you do. This supports you in engaging and connecting with the people you want to work with.

We dig deeper into the ideas around:

    • Flipping the focus on who we want to serve to help shape our own sense of identity in business
    • How vulnerability can drive connection with those around us
    • While being uncomfortable isn’t easy, confidence comes with taking action and stepping outside our comfort zone

What are your values? What are the stories you want to tell? How can you share your story through images?

  • The Key to Creating an Inclusive and Equitable Workplace with Adam Rowse & Catherine Duncan
    Mar 5 2023

The topic of gender equality is a huge one, not just a social issue but an economic issue as well. With International Women’s Day around the corner, I’ve asked my guests, Adam Rowse & Catherine Duncan, to join me for a conversation about creating an inclusive and equitable workplace.

Adam and Catherine are two people who have a big influence on how diverse and inclusive their organisations are and I know you’re going to discover so many takeaways as they share their wisdom and experience in this episode.

Catherine Duncan is the Chief Operating Officer at Matthews Steer Accountants & Advisers. With more than 30 years of experience in management roles, Catherine’s collaborative approach, and her wide-ranging experience across industries, nationalities and networks means she is well equipped to create an environment of support, learning and growth for both her people and her clients.

Adam Rowse is the Chief Customer Officer at Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, overseeing thousands of employees while leading the Business and Agribusiness banking divisions. He is passionate about diversity and inclusion within the workplace for employees, leaders and the broader community.

In this conversation, we discuss some of the things Catherine and Adam have implemented in their businesses that have been successful in creating a more inclusive workplace. Equity is not a linear path, and we talk about some of the biggest influences in creating an inclusive workplace culture.

We dig deeper into ideas around:

    • What embracing equity means and why the pendulum has to swing further the other way to remove centuries of bias.
    • Why gender equality is imperative to a successful business
    • Embracing diversity of thought and defining targets for gender equality
    • How the unconscious bias impacts recruitment and the overall culture of a workplace
    • Why technology is one of the biggest contributors to enabling an inclusive and equitable workforce

Lastly, Catherine and Adam share their final piece of wisdom for women in the workplace. They encourage us to understand what we need, ask for what we want and get supporters around us to champion us forward in our careers. I know you’re going to love this episode.

  • Supporting Women to Rise - Part 1 with Megan Dalla-Camina
    Mar 12 2023

As women, we’re experiencing record levels of burnout on a global scale. We experience inequality in the workplace, struggle to prioritise ourselves and often lack the opportunity to look up. In today’s episode, I chat with the amazing Megan Dalla-Camina about gender equality and the incredible work she does supporting women to rise in the workplace.

As well as being an award-winning marketing director and strategist for corporate heavyweights, Megan is a bestselling author and the founder of Women Rising. Her company aims to empower women in their career leadership journey and in their lives.

Megan has fought for a new path for women to own their power, embrace their sovereignty and rise. She shares her own background in experiencing a male dominated world where, like so many of us, she was taught to believe this was the norm.

We dive into areas such as:

    • The way we are conditioned and how under the patriarchy, women face the same challenges in all age groups and across many different cultures
    • How women feel guilty about putting themselves first, which results in massive burnout in their lives
    • Giving ourselves permission to prioritise our own wellbeing and create agency over our own lives
    • The approach Megan takes in leading women to take back their power

Megan has so much powerful insight to share on such a complex issue, and this is just Part 1 of our incredible conversation.

I hope this episode inspires you to think about the structures in our society and how they may be holding you back from rising up in your power.

  • Supporting Women to Rise - Part 2 with Megan Dalla-Camina
    Mar 19 2023

Last week in Part 1 of my incredible conversation with Megan Dalla-Camina, we discussed rising up with confidence as women in the workplace, and the prevalence of burnout for women on a global scale. Megan had so many powerful insights to share that we just had to come back with Part 2 of our conversation.

For today’s episode, I wanted to tap into Megan's mindset and understand what she thinks needs to change to create a more inclusive and equal world for women to participate in.

Megan has a powerful mindset and has courageously broken through some pretty major glass ceilings in her career. However, it wasn’t smooth sailing or a linear path for her to get there. Megan looks back over her corporate career and reflects on the challenges and burnout she faced when she lacked that healthy mindset.

We also talk about how creating positive change in the workplace is multi-faceted, and that there seems to be no silver bullet. But understanding these factors is important in the process of driving sizeable steps towards gender equality and inclusivity in our world.

Megan shares her ideas around what ideal leadership could look like, from CEO’s at the top to managers in the middle. She also shares the alarming statistics around women leaving the workforce due to lack of support and chronic burnout.

We discuss ideas around getting clear on what we want for our careers and determining how to build true, lasting confidence. Discovering our own authenticity and learning to chart our own path will create agency over our lives. Once we are in control over our own wellbeing and mindset, it’s then that we’re able to choose what we do next.

I’m grateful for the honesty Megan shared with us and I just know you’ll be so inspired by her passion and dedication to empowering women to rise.

  • Why Leading Your Health Can Save Your Life with Di Westaway
    Mar 26 2023

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death amongst women. However, due to the male-centric research on this disease, many women are unaware they even have a condition until it’s too late. Today I chat with Di Westaway about loving yourself and your body, and why leading your health can help save your life.

Di is the founder of Wild Women on Top, an enterprise that creates life-changing adventures for women to get fit by walking in nature. Coastrek is one of those adventures which, with its strong community of women, has raised over 45 million dollars for The Heart Foundation.

In today’s episode, Di shares the turning point in her own life that pushed her to challenge herself and prioritise her health in a major way. She talks about how enduring loss gave her the courage to change her life and the confidence to believe she could do the impossible.

Being a woman often comes with feeling the need to put everyone else first - there’s taking the kids to school, getting work done, keeping the household in order… It’s hard to find any time for yourself within all the chaos. However, if you are not healthy or prioritising your own wellbeing, you cannot function at your best.

Knowing your own worth means you’ll be prepared to make the investment in putting your health first.

Di shares some alarming statistics around women’s risk factors for heart disease, and encourages us to take it seriously when something doesn’t feel right. As women, we need to advocate for ourselves when we’re told not to worry, and to never accept no for an answer.

When we’re in tune with our own bodies and know how to care for them, we become better businesswomen, partners, carers and friends.

I hope today’s episode empowers you to begin the journey of loving yourself and knowing that in doing so, you’ll find all the energy and zest for life that’s available to you.

  • Are You Stuck in a Funk? 3 Tips to Help You Feel Better
    Apr 2 2023

We all find ourselves in a funk sometimes. Work is hard, people hurt us and life can generally deplete us. But staying in a negative mindset can be really unhealthy, and today I give you three tips that you can use to help you feel better and lift yourself out of a difficult moment. I also get really personal and share a situation of my own where I needed to shift my perspective and gain control of my mind again.

When we encounter a situation where someone or something is against us, we’re often right to feel upset, offended or disrespected. We can probably find people to side with us and validate our feelings, too. However, holding on to anger and harbouring toxic energy absolutely does not serve us in the end. I talk about how changing your perspective and looking through a lens of empathy is vital in turning things around.

I run through some steps that I’ve taken to successfully quiet my mind in times of stress:

    • Allowing yourself quiet time to elevate your thinking and reflect objectively on the situation
    • Moving into a place of forgiveness, which helps release you from an unhealthy mindset and ultimately serves you better
    • Taking action you are proud of as the leader you know yourself to be

There is so much anger in the world right now, and if more people can role model the way forward with forgiveness and being a true leader of self, we’ll have a much better world.

We can’t always control situations or other people, but we can choose how we react. It’s what we choose to do when challenges arise that really matters.

What are your values? What do you stand for? What do you stand against? Ask yourself if you’re handling your situation in a way that reflects who you are as a leader.

No one is perfect, but we can strive to be the best version of ourselves as leaders in a world that needs us.
