La segunda conversión se refiere a un nuevo y más profundo cambio interior en la vida cristiana, después de la conversión inicial al aceptar a Cristo. Es la llamada constante a una renovación y mayor entrega. San Ambrosio decía que "en la Iglesia hay agua y lágrimas: el agua del Bautismo y las lágrimas de la Penitencia". La segunda conversión es esta necesidad de reconciliarnos una y otra vez con Dios, especialmente después de haber caído en el pecado o en la tibieza espiritual.
Es una respuesta diaria a la llamada de Cristo a "volver al primer amor" (Ap 2,4-5), a un compromiso más profundo de santidad, más allá de la conversión inicial.
