About this listen

 Mel Skahan is an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation who grew up on the Yakama Reservation in Washington State. From a young age, he heard stories of the “forest people,” commonly known as Bigfoot, which sparked a lifelong curiosity.

In 1995, while working in the tribe's Forest Management Section—which oversees 1.2 million acres of land—Mel had his first direct experience with possible Bigfoot activity. He and a fellow forestry worker were out cruising timber when they came across unusual tracks, a moment that marked the beginning of his journey into Bigfoot research.

Determined to learn more, Skahan eventually joined the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), further deepening his investigation into the phenomenon. Through both professional forestry work and field research, he has become a respected voice in the search for the truth behind the legends of the forest.
