You will hear from medical researchers, clinicians, nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals who are transforming women’s, maternal, and newborn health in Western Australia.


Each episode will spotlight the diverse individuals driving change through innovative research and clinical practices, with a special focus on areas such as preterm birth prevention, maternal mental health, neonatology, gynaecology, and more.

    I’m your host Vicki Main and in this episode Dr. Gareth Baynam and Dr. Andy Poh “Rare But Everywhere: Rethinking Health and Health Systems Through the Lens of Rare Diseases”

    Dr Gareth Baynam is the a clinical geneticist, rare disease advocate and intrapreneur. Gareth is passionate about advancing translational science and transforming equitable health care delivery through innovation in precision public health. That is using ancient, old and new data and technologies to serve those at most need.

    Dr. Andy Poh is a Healthcare Strategist, Executive, Leadership and Transformation Advisor for health systems. His career roles span the government and private sectors, which include advising country-level and organizational leadership on strategy, policy and transformation, as well as establishing and managing healthcare systems. His expertise encompasses healthcare transformation, growth and public private partnerships. He has a particular interest in the Future of Healthcare, emerging technologies and innovation.

    I’m your host Vicki Main and in this episode we speak with Dr Brennen Mills who is a Senior Lecturer and active researcher in the School of Medical & Health Sciences (SMHS) and Leads the Simulation & Immersive Digital Technology Group (SIDTG) at Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Western Australia.

    Dr Mills’ background is in the development and evaluation of innovative technologies and high-fidelity simulation-based learning environments for education and training, with a focus on resilience building and enhancing preparedness in pressurised settings. This includes the development and evaluation of novel pathways for digital, augmented and virtual reality technology.
