About this listen

Comfort Jones, played by Martina Laird, made her first appearance in the sixteenth series episode "Holding the Baby", broadcast on 15 September 2001. Comfort was a paramedic. She was married to fellow paramedic Finlay "Fin" Newton (Kwame Kwei-Armah) until his death. During her time in the show, she battled alcoholism and depression. She was stabbed twice, suffered a miscarriage and discovered Fin was a bigamist. Laird decided to leave the show in 2006 and filmed her final scenes in July. Of her decision to leave, she stated "It was a tough decision but we're always happy to take up new challenges. I'm very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with such wonderful people and play such a great character for five years." The character departed in the twenty-first series episode "It's Now or Never" on 18 November 2006. Laird reprised her role for a guest appearance in the 30th anniversary episode "Too Old for This Shift". Comfort recorded a video message congratulating Charlie Fairhead played by Derek Thompson. She noted that whenever she returned to the ED and saw his face, she knew she was home this was also mentioned in the love that Martina has for the show. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thejourneyishere/message
