    Chapter 1: From Sydney to why me? December 1996

    Shortly after his diagnosis, Tom takes a three week trip to Australia with his oldest friend, Harvey. The pair travel the country and spend a memorable New Year’s Eve in Sydney. Tom uses the holiday as a chance to clear his head, and learns how his medication affects him.


    Chapter 2: From Shakes to Ladders, Spring 1999 (15:44)

    Three years since his diagnosis and now taking around 20 pills a day, Tom decides he needs to embrace a new, positive outlook on life with Parkinson’s. He decides he should fight the condition head on, but wonders how best to do this.


    Chapter 3: From Daft Idea to Awful Reality, January 2002 (29:30)

    Tom has an idea to walk around the coastline of Britain, thinking that progress around the coast could lead to progress towards a cure, and Coastin’ is born. With a team of commercial and philanthropic partners gathered, plus inspirational PR support from Helen, the framework for Tom’s challenge is now in place.

    Chapter 16: From Duncansby to Durness, 112 Miles, July - August

    Now in Sutherland, the route becomes more remote, rugged, and is plagued with midges. Tom debates whether Coastin’ is getting any easier and takes on one of the longest and most difficult day’s walking so far.

    Chapter 17: From North Coast to West Coast, 31 Miles, August (20:11)

    Tom reaches the furthest most point from London, but a lack of sleep is beginning to affect his mood and symptoms. To boost morale, Tom and Peter are joined by their friend Alison, but a tricky day of walking lies ahead.

    Whilst in north east Scotland, Tom is asked to be a baton carrier for the Common Wealth Games, so flies down to London to take part. He meets up with friends and family, and discusses the relationship he has with his dad.

    Back in Scotland and both Tom and Peter encounter some bad luck. Tom reads messages of support on the Coastin’ website to keep his spirits up, and is joined by Will. Tom has an incredibly friendly welcome to the villages of Wick by the generous locals, and celebrates reaching John O’Groats.

    Chapter 12: From Pit to Bunker, 178 Miles, June

    Heading up the north east coast, Tom passes through industrial coastal towns and villages on his way up to Newcastle for a brief detour over the city’s own Millennium Bridge. Once past the city, he enjoys the quiet, scenic coastline of Northumberland and clocks his 750th mile. He also reaches a new milestone with Lyndsey – meeting her parents – and crosses the border into Scotland.


    Chapter 13: From Firth and Fife to Tay and Spey, 299 Miles, June - July (22:32)

    Now in Scotland, Tom briefly meets up with his Aunt and Uncle before following the Fife Coastal path north. He hits mile 1,000, meets some friendly and inspirational locals, and is joined by his friend Peter, who will accompany him for the next 700 miles.
