About this listen
Chapter 1: From Sydney to why me? December 1996
Shortly after his diagnosis, Tom takes a three week trip to Australia with his oldest friend, Harvey. The pair travel the country and spend a memorable New Year’s Eve in Sydney. Tom uses the holiday as a chance to clear his head, and learns how his medication affects him.
Chapter 2: From Shakes to Ladders, Spring 1999 (15:44)
Three years since his diagnosis and now taking around 20 pills a day, Tom decides he needs to embrace a new, positive outlook on life with Parkinson’s. He decides he should fight the condition head on, but wonders how best to do this.
Chapter 3: From Daft Idea to Awful Reality, January 2002 (29:30)
Tom has an idea to walk around the coastline of Britain, thinking that progress around the coast could lead to progress towards a cure, and Coastin’ is born. With a team of commercial and philanthropic partners gathered, plus inspirational PR support from Helen, the framework for Tom’s challenge is now in place.
