About this listen

In this collection of sketches, W.A. MacKay explores the vibrant community of Zorra—a small district in Oxford County, Ontario—settled primarily by Highlanders from Sutherlandshire, Scotland, around 1830. With a population of about fourteen hundred, Zorra has seen over a hundred young men venture forth to make their mark on the world in the past four decades. MacKay, having had the privilege of knowing many of these individuals personally, shares their inspiring journeys. While not exhaustive, these unembellished accounts aim to motivate not only the young men of Zorra today but anyone facing lifes challenges. Furthermore, these sketches evoke nostalgia for a time when Hearts were light as ony feather, Free frae sorrow, care and strife.
