About this listen

On November 26, 1922, after eight years of relentless exploration in the Valley of the Kings, renowned archaeologist Howard Carter made a groundbreaking discovery—the tomb of Tut-Ankh-Amen, an 18th dynasty pharaoh dating back to around 1300 BCE. Unlike any tomb excavated before, this remarkable find was virtually untouched by tomb raiders. Carters famous exclamation upon his first glimpse inside, Wonderful things! has echoed through history. The meticulous excavation took another eight years, unveiling an astonishing 5,398 artifacts, most of which are now proudly displayed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. However, the mummy of Tut-Ankh-Amen remains undisturbed in its final resting place. This first volume of Howard Carters memoirs, penned in late 1923, vividly recounts the thrilling discovery and the meticulous process of clearing the antechamber and opening the sealed door to the burial chamber. - Summary by Availle
