 Fu banchiere, imprenditore e teorico. Morì assassinato nel 1734, e per oltre due secoli il suo pensiero fu ignorato, frainteso, dimenticato. Eppure il "Saggio sulla natura del commercio in generale" – pubblicato postumo – è stato definito «la vera culla dell’economia politica». Luigi Einaudi e Friedrich von Hayek ne colsero il valore.
Cantillon anticipò la figura dell’imprenditore, comprese il meccanismo dell’inflazione e fondò un metodo basato sulle azioni individuali.
Un episodio per riscoprire un classico dimenticato, più attuale che mai.
