    As October marked Health Literacy Month, we think it’s the perfect time to share the importance of understanding health information and provide you with tools, resources, and expert advice to improve your health literacy.

    To tell us more about health literacy we welcome Dr. Lisa Yazel. Dr. Yazel is a Community Health Improvement Manager at Franciscan Health. Dr. Yazel has a doctorate in health education and over 20 years of experience in community and public health. She is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist whose research focuses on the health education workforce and advocacy for public health initiatives.

    We’re also joined by Dr. Carolyn Shue. Dr. Shue is a communications professor at Ball State and currently serves as the department chair in communication studies. Her research centers on low health literacy and patient-physician communication.

  • Alcohol Awareness

    Our Season 3 Premier focuses on alcohol awareness both on campus and in the community. We aim to provide insight into alcohol misuse and responsible drinking. We are joined by three experts: Dr. Joseph Bartholomew and Certified Health Experts Maddie Campbell and Suzanne Swierc.

    Dr. Bartholomew is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Ball State and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor, focusing on mental health, addiction, Medically Assisted Treatment, and SBIRT training. He is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Health Education Specialist.

    Maddie Campbell and Suzanne Swierc are the Assistant Director and Director of Health Promotion and Advocacy at Ball State, respectively. Both are Certified Health Education Specialists, with Suzanne holding a Masters in Public Health. Their team provides health and wellness education to support student well-being and academic success.
