 La tettonica a placche è una teoria scientifica che spiega il movimento delle placche litosferiche della Terra, ovvero la crosta terrestre e la parte superiore della litosfera. Secondo questa teoria, la Terra è costituita da una serie di placche litosferiche che si muovono lentamente una rispetto all'altra. Questi movimenti sono causati dal calore che si trova nel mantello terrestre, che agisce come una sorta di "motore" per le placche.
