Vivremo le vicende di Bjartur, un uomo la cui unica priorità è acquisire la sua totale indipendenza, ed è disposto a tutto per ottenerla, o meglio, a niente.
Bjartur evita il più possibile i contatti con la civiltà, non chiede, non accetta e non fa favori a nessuno perché non vuole essere in debito né vuole che gli altri lo siano con lui.
Riesce ad acquistare una vecchia tenuta di campagna che evita persino di ristrutturare se non facendo piccoli lavori in autonomia. Dedica tutte le sue giornate, dall’alba a notte fonda, a coltivare i suoi campi e ad accudire le sue pecore.
Così, nel tempo, la poca gente che aveva dei rapporti con lui, smette di andare a trovarlo e lui, finalmente, rimane, diciamo, da solo.
Più o meno.
