About this listen

Gaps in Carnal Knowledge is a podcast about sex-ed gone wrong and not knowing everything about sex. As adults, we are often expected to know everything there is about sexuality. I mean, we haven't had those classes since high school (or never), right??? The world of sex and sexuality is vast and growing and even the experts have to stay on top of the latest discoveries to stay relevant! How can the general public be expected to keep up? Sexuality educator, Nat Higgins, M.Ed. is obsessed with giving adults space to admit they might not know everything about sex.

  • Ep 34: Faith, Flesh, and Finding Belonging with Rev. Evan Amo
    Jun 1 2025

For this episode, Nat is joined by Reverend Evan Amo to talk about the intersections of faith, sexuality, shame, and repairing damage caused by harmful rhetoric in the name of the church. From the topic of Original Sin and the different pressures places on spirit and body, to the alienating and shame driven aspects of sexuality within the typical conservative Christian teachings, Evan brings both personal and pastoral insight to the table, and together we explore how those religious frameworks have shaped (and often distorted) our understanding of sexuality.

Rev. Evan Amo is the founding pastor of Waypoint Spiritual Community and the musician behind Bruised Reeds, a soul-searching music project that blends lament with liberation. BE sure to follow Waypoint Spiritual on Instagram to see their community work!

  • Ep. 33: Can Dan Poly?
    May 4 2025

Dan Roberts was born in eastern Ontario, Canada and grew up in a nice, small, homogenous town. Over time and with changing geography he met a diversity of people and was exposed to different ways of life. Each new person or destination was a chance to experience new things, and to learn.

He’s lived in small towns and big cities, played sports, and been a successful art photographer (@HackTheLight). He studied applied physics before choosing a career in software engineering, and his current business is an event ticketing and membership platform called Multipass.

With a late discovery of likely neurodivergence (neurospicy?), change can be both thrilling and difficult for him. Change is also inevitable, and embracing personal growth is a core principle of Dan’s life. Sometimes this means uprooting deep mental roots, trying something new, and this book is evidence of that.

After four decades of life and relationships, largely based in emotional monogamy, polyamory thrust the door of change wide open. His journey into this new life has been exciting, extremely costly and painful, and ultimately successful.

Non-attachment brings peace, and granting freedom to those around us brings respect.
