Meet Our Guest Dr. Victoria Miles is an Assistant Professor of Burn Surgery at University Medical Center New Orleans in association with Louisiana State University Health Science Center New Orleans. She was born and raised in South Mississippi. While completing college and medical school, Dr. Miles worked full-time as an EMT-Paramedic in Hazelhurst, Mississippi. She continues to serve as an adjunct instructor for the Holmes Community College Critical Care Paramedic program. Dr. Miles graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed her general surgery residency and research years at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga. Dr. Miles then completed her Surgical Critical Care and Burn Surgery Fellowship at University of Texas Southwestern, Parkland Hospital, in Dallas where she received the Top Knife Award for Best Fellow Technical Skills. Her research interests include military and EMS burn education, burn hypermetabolism and nutrition, limb salvage, and acute burn resuscitation and coagulopathy. Dr. Miles directs the American Burn Association Mentorship Program and serves on the American Burn Association's Reconstruction and Membership Advisory Committees. In addition, Dr. Miles was elected to the International Society of Burn Injuries' Burn Care Committee and International Burn Center Assessment Team. She is a scientific reviewer for the Journal of Burn Care and Research and the American Journal of Surgery. An early career burn surgeon, Dr. Miles has authored over 35 publications, given over 20 national podium presentations, and authored a book chapter. In her free time, Dr. Miles enjoying traveling with her husband, Dr. Daniel Miles, who is an Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon for Tulane University in New Orleans.
