About this listen
In this heartfelt and insightful episode, host and former Red Sox executive Adrian Lorenzo sits down with Alberto Mejia, Director of International Operations for the Boston Red Sox, for a bilingual conversation years in the making. The two first crossed paths when Adrian interviewed and helped hire Alberto as an intern at the Red Sox Dominican Academy—an early opportunity that would help launch Mejia’s path from Santiago, Dominican Republic to a leadership role within the organization’s international operations.
After earning a scholarship to play college baseball in the United States, Mejia spent time working fast food and roofing jobs before breaking into baseball operations. That same work ethic carried into his early internships, where he steadily built a reputation in international scouting and player development.
Together, Adrian and Alberto reflect on their early days in the Red Sox Dominican Academy, the challenges of evaluating 14- and 15-year-old prospects, and the collaborative effort involved in scouting, signing, and developing young Latin American talent. They share untold stories behind players like Brayan Bello and Ceddanne Rafaela, and how that shared journey—rooted in long hours on back fields—culminated in the organization’s 2018 World Series championship, a moment that validated years of dedication and perseverance.
