 Am Morgen des 27. Dezember 1985 wird eine Leiche mit eingeschlagenem Schädel in ihrer Hütte im Karisoke Research Center gefunden. Offenbar kam es in der Hütte zum Kampf mit dem Mörder. Das Opfer konnte sogar noch zu einer Pistole greifen. Doch die Munition darin hatte das falsche Kaliber. Das Opfer war das Oberhaupt eines Forscherteams, was in den Tiefen des Urwalds Pionierarbeit leistete. Doch der Preis war hoch und ein erbitterer Guerillakampf wurde enfacht...
