Die Redewendung “etwas für bare Münze nehmen” bedeutet, etwas wörtlich oder ernst zu nehmen, ohne es infrage zu stellen oder nach weiteren Bedeutungen zu suchen.
In den Sprachgebrauch gelangte die Redewendung bereits im 18. Jahrhundert. Die Bedeutung war damals, dass die Zusage einer Zahlung als barer Besitz betrachtet werden konnte, da die Zusage ebenso zuverlässig war wie die direkte Zahlung.
Der Ausspruch "bare Münze" steht demnach für etwas Echtes und Greifbares.
