• Home for the Holidays Part 2: Between Hustle & Grace - Finding Your Holiday Rhythm
    Oct 27 2025

When it comes to holiday preparations, are you a methodical list maker like Gretchen, or are you more scattered and spontaneous like Jennifer? Do you put up the Christmas tree before or after Thanksgiving? Is your Christmas card picked out by October or are you taking family selfies in the second week of December?

No matter where you land in the spectrum of planning and preparing, we believe that there’s grace and opportunity to delight in this special time of year!

Every family has their own set of rhythms when it comes to transitioning into the holidays, but many of us still feel like there’s room for improvement to create more space for peace and rest during such a busy time.

In our second Home for the Holidays episode, Gretchen and Jennifer chat about practical ways to bring beauty and comfort into the atmosphere of your home, while also discussing how both internal and external limitations can impact our ability to make the practical things happen.

We hope that you are encouraged by this honest conversation where we navigate the space between our ideals and everyday life when it comes to embracing all that this sacred season has to offer.

  • Home for the Holidays Part 1: Initial Preparations - Reflections + Conversations
    Oct 20 2025

While the pumpkins are still on your porch, it seems like a good time to think ahead about how to intentionally prepare our homes and hearts for the holiday season.

Introducing a new series called Home for the Holidays, Gretchen and Jennifer reflect on their childhood experiences of the season and how those memories have impacted their orchestration of traditions with their own families.

We also discuss the importance of asking questions and having conversations with our children and spouse to see what traditions, menu items, experiences (and even decorations) matter to them. Are we needlessly spending energy on certain things because we have wrongly assumed that everyone expected or valued them? There’s only one way to find out!

Cultivating an atmosphere of sacredness in our homes is a way to push back darkness and reclaim light and life for ourselves and all who enter, whether for spouse, child, or guest. And at the same time, we are invited into a divinely intimate communion with the Father, where the washing of each dish, the folding of another towel, the hundredth tidying of the living room… we offer ourselves in worship. And He sees.

  • Worship Part 3: A Moment with Brooks - Scripture, Surrender, Sacrifice
    Sep 22 2025

He’s a Christ follower, husband, father, friend, shepherd, disciple, leader, musician… Meet Brooks Joyce. Finishing up our worship series, Brooks sat down with Gretchen and Jennifer to discuss the ideals and everyday life when it comes to living a life of surrender.

After two decades on staff at Port City Community Church in Wilmington, NC, Brooks possesses a tremendous outpouring of wisdom, conviction, and passion for leading people into an encounter with Jesus in his role as Worship Director. While leading a team of over 30 musicians has provided ample opportunities for discipleship and service, Brooks maintains that his wife and children are his primary ministry focus.

We hope you’ll find a moment to listen in as Brooks shares numerous scriptures, inspires us towards authenticity, and offers behind-the-scenes insight into the Akedah Worship School that launched this year for his team.

  • Worship Part 1: In Spirit and In Truth
    Sep 8 2025

Everyday life as a believer is filled with countless opportunities to express praise and honor to our Heavenly Father, but if you’re like us, you’re prone to wandering affections too. How can we remain aligned with Jesus in our minds and hearts as we move through the mundane and routine parts of our lives? Is it possible to transform ordinary into sacred? To worship in spirit and in truth as scripture prescribes, we must invest ourselves in knowing the fullness of God with our hearts and minds.

Believers can easily and unknowingly reduce worship to the singing of songs on Sunday mornings, but this conversation invites us to recalibrate and intentionally offer the wholeness of our lives as a living sacrifice. This is the ideal worship.

We hope you’ll find a moment to listen in with Gretchen and Jennifer as we begin this new series on worship as we share personal experiences, encouraging verses, and - of course - everyday life.
