About this listen
#13: What does financial abuse in families look like?💸
Can my own sibling inflict financial abuse on me? What about a cousin? A distant relative? The answer is absolutely.
- In this episode, I went to Reddit to share some real life examples of financial abuse in families. Financial abuse is a spectrum, it can be something small or something that takes 100% of control from an individual.
- Then, Justine De Peralta, Author of ‘Girl, Jump: Building a Financial Safety Net to Leave an Abusive Relationship and Reclaim Your Freedom’ and I have a conversation about money red flags in families. We also briefly touch on the financial burden that often is left to the child of an aging parent.
- Finally, we discuss how even when our loved ones are healing money traumas of their own, it is not on us to be the solution to their every issue. There are other ways we can help, both empowering them and not inhibiting our personal growth.
💸Make sure you check out Episode 11 to learn the 4 step process of non-violent communication. Justine walked us through having a successful yet difficult money conversations with loved ones.
