David was born in 1972 in southern California. His family moved to Arlington, Texas in 1977. As a young person, David excelled intellectually throughout grade school and was given an opportunity to participate in an abbreviated class at the university of Texas at Arlington at age 12. Mom broke his heart by moving them to the "country" in 1988. His interest in the intellectual waned a bit, but he embraced the local culture and prospered as a cowboy. David was offered a full ride scholarship to a D1 school for rodeo if you can believe that is a thing :) He finished 6th in the world in 1992 and competed professionally for a bit.On August 14, 2015, he with his daughter riding on the back flipped his "iron horse" on a tame s-curve down a country road. Candy Lane. He woke up 7 days later and began his journey as a survivor.
