En aquel tiempo, mientras Jesús hablaba, se acercó un jefe de los judíos que se arrodilló ante él y le dijo:
«Mi hija acaba de morir. Pero ven tú, impón tu mano sobre ella y vivirá».
Jesús se levantó y lo siguió con sus discípulos.
Entre tanto, una mujer que sufría flujos de sangre desde hacía doce años, se le acercó por detrás y le tocó la orla del manto, pensando que con solo tocarle el manto se curaría.
Jesús se volvió y, al verla le dijo:
«¡Animo, hija! Tu fe te ha curado».
Y en aquel momento quedó curada la mujer.
Jesús llegó a casa de aquel jefe y, al ver a los flautistas y el alboroto de la gente, dijo:
«¡Retiraos! La niña no está muerta, está dormida».
Se reían de él.
Cuando echaron a la gente, entró él, cogió a la niña de la mano, y ella se levantó.
La noticia se divulgó por toda aquella comarca.
