About this listen
Eric Weber, Head of Experimentation and data scientist at Yelp, former professor, and world traveler, joins us on this week’s episode to talk about the importance of making good decisions. In this episode, Eric discussed with us how his love for both teaching and information has shaped his career as a data scientist. In this field, he builds processes to simplify data in order for others to understand and make the right decision.
We learned more about Eric’s background in data science and how this has helped shape his mission in helping others make good decisions. From his perspective, Eric believes that we as humans will tend to make the easy decision, even if it’s not always the right one. So, he discusses why it’s more important to make a series of small, good decisions so that when major life decisions come around, you’re ready to handle them.
Eric also shared with us the importance of overcoming bias in cognitive decision making. On this point, he mentioned, “How do you make AI unbiased when so much of the machinery and tools we build are reflections of our own personalities?”
