Ambros, along with his colleague Gary Ruvkun, identified the first microRNA, lin-4, in the early 1990s, which marked a revolutionary finding in the understanding of gene regulation. He has made significant contributions to the study of RNA-mediated gene regulation in development, aging, and disease. Ambros is a professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and has received numerous accolades for his groundbreaking work, including the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 2024.Chloe Aftel has spent her career working in commercial photography, photojournalism, and film.
