According to a report by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in 2017, as much as 70% of the sewage generated in India is discharged untreated into rivers, lakes, and other water bodies. With SBM 2.0 focus on treating the liquid waste within the country, the sanitation workers engaged in managing and treating this waste are still facing the stigma of handling it. The Environmental Outlook interviewed ‘The Radhakrishna SHG group’ which is handling the Septage treatment plant at Daspalla NAC for the past two years. Through their tireless efforts, these unsung heroes have ensured safe sanitation services and made people aware of safe sanitation practices, creating a positive impact on the environment.
