About this listen
Welcome to The Hip Replacement Podcast – a show by a hip replacement patient FOR hip replacement patients, their families and friends.
Whether you're preparing for surgery, in recovery, or just looking to move and live better — you're in the right place.
This episode is about Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD), which can occur when the length of the implanted components does not match the length of the natural hip components which were removed. This situation can also occur due to the alignment of the implanted components.
LLD can contribute to aches and pains in hips, knees, as well as muscles in the legs and back.
Depending upon the degree of the LLD, the problems may not be noticeable, be mild or even severe. It’s important to identify the existence of any discrepancy. A physical therapist can assist.
To reduce the impact of LLD, use a shoe insert on the shorter leg side, stretch the muscles of the legs and back, and avoid sitting in the same position for prolonged periods.
