Raymond Buys was a 15-year-old South African boy who died in 2011 after enduring severe abuse at a military-style training camp run by Alex de Koker and Michael Erasmus. His mother had enrolled him in the Echo Wild Game Rangers camp in hopes of helping him overcome behavioral issues. However, during his time there, Raymond was starved, beaten, electrocuted, and subjected to other forms of torture. After being hospitalized in a critical condition, he died after three weeks on life support. The case shocked the nation, highlighting issues of abuse under the guise of discipline and sparking outrage over the lack of oversight in such camps. In 2013, both de Koker and Erasmus were found guilty of murder and other charges.
