“リアル・ソウルの伝道師”エリック・ベネイ。高校卒業直後から姉、従兄弟らと結成したグループ「Benét」として活動し、1996年に『トゥルー・トゥ・マイセルフ』でソロ・デビュー。スティーヴィー・ワンダーやアル・グリーンを彷彿とさせる暖かなヴォーカルとR&B/ソウルの伝統に根付いた生音を重視したサウンド、そしてスピリチュアルな歌詞で、ディアンジェロ、マックスウェルと共にニュー・クラシック・ソウルを牽引してきた。グラミー賞にも幾度となくノミネートされている。
