After playing collegiate soccer at Hannibal LaGrange, Dement's journey took him from reluctant insurance salesman to passionate educator and coach. For the past 13 years, he's led both the boys' and girls' soccer programs at Sikeston, creating a unified culture across both teams. "The bottom line is develop a relationship, get them to buy in, get them to love the team, get them to love the process of development," Dement explains, highlighting his coaching philosophy that transcends gender differences.

What stands out most about Dement's programs is their commitment to community service. The boys host annual "Gold Out" games supporting childhood cancer awareness, while the girls organize themed events for causes like breast cancer and ALS. These initiatives teach players to look beyond themselves - a lesson far more valuable than any soccer skill.

When asked to describe his program in one word, DeMint chooses "perseverance" - perfectly capturing how his teams have weathered challenges, including bouncing back from an 0-23 season to reach the district championship the very next year.
