About this listen
In the last decade there has been a trend for major sports and sports entertainment and entertainment companies to stage lucrative events in countries that have less than stellar reputations. WWE and UFC come to mind right away, and Maybe you have heard about the this thing called the world cup?
The general idea of sportswashing is to associate a regime, nation, culture, or identity with a favorable outlook based on its support of sport, as opposed to its record on things like human rights. For example, if your favorite team is bought by a Saudi corporation (looking at you Newcastle United) and they start spending money, and the team does well, you might think benevolently about the Saudis at first mention instead of associating them with say Kashoggi.
