Creada casi como un experimento de laboratorio por productores como Jerry Kasenetz y Jeff Katz, y ejecutada por bandas con nombres brillantes como The Archies, 1910 Fruitgum Company o Ohio Express, esta música no pretendía ser profunda: quería ser divertida, bailable y fácil de cantar.
