五箇山という場所は白川郷からさほど遠くない場所にありますが、こちらは富山県。対する白川郷は岐阜県です。しかし江戸時代、この五箇山という場所は不思議な事に加賀藩の飛び地でした。実は加賀藩は江戸時代の間、この五箇山で火縄銃や大砲に使用する火薬の原材料を作っていたのです。しかし何故、前田家はこんな山奥の飛び地でそんな事をしていたのでしょう？
