About this listen

Kathy McCabe has the ultimate dream job. As the host of PBS’s Dream of Italy, she travels to locations all over the country, tasting, talking and taking in the culture in, as you hear before every episode, and I rightly agree, “the most fascinating country in the world.” You can find her at Andrea Bocelli’s house receiving a personal serenade, or alongside Francis Ford Coppola getting a tour of his hotel, or chatting over a glass of wine with Marisa Tomei or hanging out with Sting himself. After founding the magazine of the same name in 2002, Kathy knows how to make a dream come true and shows everyone how to Dream of Italy.

Kathy discusses fulfilling her grandfather's dream of making it to their ancestral village of Castelvetere sul Calore and what happened while on that very first trip. Plus, what her mother told her as she was passing, and how her mom has come through after that, including the awe inspiring story of who signed her father's death certificate.

Also discussed the phenom that is Finney! Hear how Kathy received an unmistakable sign when contemplating whether to take her dog Finney to Italy.
