 Een aap en een kat, huisdieren, willen geroosterde kastanjes uit het vuur halen. De slimme aap overtuigt de kat om de kastanjes uit het vuur te halen, omdat zij daar handiger in is. Terwijl de kat haar poten brandt om de kastanjes eruit te halen, eet de aap ze allemaal op. Als de eigenaar thuiskomt, vluchten ze. De kat blijft achter met een verbrande poot en geen kastanjes. De moraal van het verhaal is dat je soms gebruikt kan worden door anderen om hun doelen te bereiken.
