 Chapter 1 of "Pump and Run" introduces Justin, a stressed-out husband and father struggling with a nicotine addiction. After an intense argument with his wife, Karen, about their financial difficulties and his cigarette spending, Justin storms out to seek solace in a smoke. However, he discovers he's out of cigarettes and drives to a dimly lit gas station called "Pump and Run." There he encounters Ricky, an enigmatic and slightly unsettling gas station attendant. After Justin forgets his cigarettes in his haste, he returns to the store, where Ricky offers him a cheaper way to buy cigarettes and slips him his number.
